Un Jardin sur le Nil belongs to the Floral-Fruity-Green family. It is world-famous for pioneering the use of crisp, unripened green mango as a high-perfumery focal point.
- Top Notes (The Zesty Botanical Spark): Green Mango, Grapefruit, Tomato Stem, and Carrot Seed. A crunchy, vegetal, and tart opening that instantly cools and awakens the senses.
- Heart Notes (The Aquatic Core): Lotus Blossom, Bulrush, Hyacinth, and Peony. A dewy, water-kissed floral layer that evokes lotus petals floating on clear river currents.
- Base Notes (The Tranquil Footprint): Sycamore Wood, Incense, Cinnamon, Iris, and Musk. A soft, dry, and mineral-woody foundation that anchors the green freshness without adding heavy weight.
The Origin: A Legendary Olfactory Journey
Released in 2005, Un Jardin sur le Nil was crafted by master perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena as the second chapter in the celebrated Parfums-Jardins series.
The creation of this fragrance became one of the most documented stories in modern perfumery (immortalized in Chandler Burr’s book The Perfect Scent). Ellena traveled directly to Egypt to find inspiration along the Nile River. Standing in a garden on the island of Elephantine in Aswan, he smelled the green fruit of hanging mango trees before they had ripened—capturing that exact crunchy, watery, and slightly woody aroma to define the fragrance.
The Nile-Gradient Flacon: The 100 ml bottle features Hermès' signature lanterns-on-carriages glass silhouette. The glass is finished with a delicate gradient that fades from clear at the top to a vibrant, pale green-blue at the base, reflecting the lush vegetation lining the banks of the river Nile.
