The Origin: A Study in Majestic Wood
Created in 2017 by Guerlain’s Master Perfumer Thierry Wasser, Oud Essentiel was designed as a cornerstone of the prestigious Absolus d'Orient collection. Wasser sought to highlight the pure, majestic essence of oud wood without overpowering the composition with overly medicinal notes.
By pairing the resinous warmth of agarwood with dark leather, incense, and a touch of sweet Bulgarian rose, Wasser created a balanced, incredibly long-lasting fragrance that honors traditional Middle Eastern scent rituals while maintaining Guerlain’s signature elegance.
The Emerald-Black Flacon: The 125 ml bottle is a stunning piece of art. Cast in a deep, dark emerald-black glass that glows subtly under direct light, it is wrapped in an ornate gold ribbon sealed with a Guerlain medallion. Crowned with a rounded, dome-shaped gold cap, it evokes the opulent architecture of Eastern palaces.
